Five Star

5 star Ofsted Report for The Milestone School

How good is the school? Well the Ofsted inspectors stated, “The Milestone is a very good school with many excellent features that fully justify its status as a Beacon School. It offers special education of very high quality.”

This is a remarkable achievement for a school that has been open just three years. Well done to Vince Stroud, his staff, board of governors and pupils. Also remarkable is that 3 of the 5 special schools under threat have received outstanding Ofsted Reports on their last inspection, whilst the others were both very good. One wonders at the thinking of the officers and councillors who are proposing to do away with exellence for an unproven and uncertain future.

A delighted  Vince Stroud said, "Staff have worked exceptionally hard to ensure school gets off to a good start. We have directed our school development towards building up systems that will enable children to learn both socially and academically, and I am really pleased that the Ofsted team has proven that our hard work has been worth it. A particularly lovely comment was that our children are made to feel special for reasons other than their disability." Surely this is what inclusion is really about.

Kate Hawkins, Chairman of Governors at The Milestone school since it opened in 1997, said, "I am delighted with the result of the inspection; it is an excellent indication to parents that their children are in good hands. There is still much to do, and we will not rest on our laurels, but continue to develop for the improvement of our children."
